sphinx search product for vbulletin finalized
I finally finished the Sphinx Search integration, into vBulletin 3.7 forum software.
After 1,500 lines of code and a lot of server testing, I can say that the product can be labeled as “industrial grade”. This product is pretty technical, it requires server administration knowledge, as well patience to read the help information for each new option implemented into vBulletin control panel.
The main difference between the freeware and my product is the results accuracy, as well many many other improvements related to the search. My product will return identical results, compared to the original vBulletin search results. Also, all options you currently find in the original vBulletin search are functional in my product and 100% accurate.
Some of the product interesting features:
- User Profile, Similar Threads and Tags Search implementation
- Search keywords spell checker (like Google’s “Did You Mean”)
- Sphinx Index integrity check system
- Real time Index Data validation
- Admin technical Email related to Index Data failures
- User Web Alerts related to current Search status (when disabled)
- vBulletin Blog Search implementation (upon client request)
- vBulletin Project Tools Search implementation (upon client request)
I must admit, the most boring part in web development is to write the software documentation. All my products include the vBulletin help (?) documentation you find beside each administrative option. For Sphinx product, it is imperious.

Next week, I will release version 1.1.0. All current customers will be contacted and get a free update. This is just to thank you for the way all of you supported me by purchasing my software. The new version uses a new search algorithm, 2 times faster then the current one.
I will also post screenshots, so you can actually see what looks like inside the Admin CP.
