my first day at ubisoft +
If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I started working for Ubisoft since yesterday. Honestly, I don’t regret at all my decision. So far the first day was great, people are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is hype, matching perfectly my life style.
The Montreal studio where I work is located on the Main. When I did the welcome tour, I was most impressed with the high level of technology they have available into current building. Also, there is a strange feeling to see people relaxed and smiling, even on the busy studios where the new release deadline is crunching everyone together, on a vast open space that facilitates the communication. Everything is built in house, from basic sounds that emulate the walk of a character in snow to the large open spaces where over 200 people work to finalize a new project. I cannot post pictures unfortunately, but you should see the high-tech rooms where game testers are observed and recorded, in order to create gamer profiles.
Ubisoft encourages the open space and communication. I love that. Everywhere you go, every floor is wide open, allowing you to access each department easy. In the first day at work, I already received a criticism from my boss: “Floren, you should go out of the building more often and relax.” So I will follow his advice right now and and chill at Ubi lounge, on 5th floor.
Overall, working with many smart people around me will only help me improve further my developer and management skills and that is the main reason I accepted the position in the first place.
